Who We Are — The Indian Association of The Experiment In International Living

The Experiment in International Living is an international movement pioneered by Dr. Donald B. Watt of the USA in 1932. It is often assumed that a single individual's behaviour cannot affect the wider world - that in the face of great conflicts, one person is too small to help. Yet many of those conflicts grow from a web of distrust, distorted views and prejudice that stands between us and better understanding.

For this reason the Experiment believes the individual is an indispensable means of furthering peace - as the preamble of the UNESCO Charter states: “Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed.”

Ever since 1932, the Family Home Stay has been at the heart of the experience. Each Experimenter lives the lifestyle of a host family — sharing its daily activities, values, friends and hopes. From such an experience — available in more than sixty countries — the Experimenter emerges with heightened self-awareness, greater fluency in a second language, and a conviction that, with goodwill and effort, the differences that separate us can be overcome in the interest of our common humanity.

The international headquarters of the Experiment are located in Brattleboro, Vermont, USA.
