A rich tradition of intercultural dialogue and peacebuilding
TheIndianAssociationoftheExperimentinInternationalLiving-aPublicCharitableTrust-wasregisteredinBombayin1962undertheBombayPublicTrustAct,1950,thoughitsactivitiesinIndiabeganasearlyas1951.ItisalsoregisteredunderSection12AoftheIncomeTaxAct,1961,andholdsan80Gcertificate.
ThefirstExperimentgroupcametoIndiafromSwedenin1951.ThefirstU.S.group-Dr.andMrs.WattwiththreeAmericanstudents-visitedIndiain1953,andfrom1955onwardsAmericangroupscameregularlyforsuccessfulhomestays.SincethenthemovementinIndiahasgatheredsuchmomentumthatIndia'scontributiontotheworldwideExperimentisrecognisedandapplaudedbyothercountries.
Overthedecades,theIndianExperimenthasbecomeapremierorganisationinthefieldofexperientiallearninginhumanrelations,hostingthousandsofExperimentersunderitsIndividualandGroupHomeStayprogrammesandearningthetrustofthousandsofhostfamilies.From1962onwards,some2,000IndianExperimentershavetravelledabroadtotheUSA,UK,Japan,France,Germany,Italy,Switzerland,Spain,theNetherlandsandSweden.
ThenationalofficeisinNewDelhi,withCommunityChairpersonsleadingeachcentrewiththehelpofalocalcommittee.
